Sounds suspiciously like the Yasser Arafat "he's alive, he's dead, he's alive" tango. Per UPI:
Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, May. 27 (UPI)—Reliable sources in the Saudi capital Riyadh said Friday King Fahd is dead, reports the Saudi Institute.
In fact, according to these 'reliable sources', the old boy's been dead since Wednesday:
King Fahd of Saudi Arabia has been dead since late Wednesday, according to several well-placed sources in the capital Riyadh who spoke to the Saudi Institute, a pro-democracy think tank in Washington, on condition of anonymity.
The government also canceled all military leave, "a sure sign that something is happening," said the Saudi Institute.
As the big boys say: Breaking. As they also have been known to say: "Ooops". So we'll sit back and wait for another news service to corroborate this before we call it a fact.
In the meantime, those other news services, such as the NYTimes report King Fahd "improving":
King Fahd was reported in stable condition and improving on Saturday, a day after he was hospitalized for unspecified medical tests.
Foreign Minister Saud al-Faisal said, "His condition is stable and the results of the medical tests are reassuring."
An official at the King Faisal Specialist Hospital in Riyadh said the king was "improving" but had "water in the lungs." His fever was said to be going down.
We put the wire reports up, you decide.
